The trends of 2024
What goes around always comes around. As a teenager, I loved 1970s-style clothing, and my Mom would tell me how she used to wear the same things. I know how she felt when I saw cargo pants, bucket hats, and chunky platforms in stores. Trends cycle and circle through, and that's the vibe of the current energies. There's a nostalgia in the air, like thinking back to Blockbuster Video, cassette tapes or your childhood toys. It's fun to remember how things were. Still, we can't go back there, even if the comfort and familiarity are so tempting.
The current energies are bringing up memories and past experiences. The mixed feelings span from good and bad to sad or even relief those times are over. But no matter how much you like reminiscing over your cassette collection, you'll still listen to music on your phone. No matter how much you wear your bucket hat, in the coming years, when the trends change, so will your wardrobe.
I once wanted to watch some family movies on VHS, but I could not buy a VHS player everywhere I looked. As much as we chase nostalgia, some things are impossible and can't be recreated. Instead of accepting this, say we continue to obsess about the past or fantasize about the good old days. Right now, that will lead us to inflict unnecessary pain on ourselves.
The key is to cherish the memories and feel the feelings, but honestly, look at what you want to use moving forward. We can hold onto past experiences as tokens or souvenirs, like unique pieces in a collection. Still, they belong in a cabinet, not our hands or day-to-day lives.
There's time to gather and sort through what's surfacing. Ask yourself what's serving you and what's best to stay in the past. We don't have to rush into the future. Our best bet is to take the coming season to breathe and integrate what we have learned. Remember that the zodiac new year starts in March, so there's no need to force a reinvention during a time when you may feel like hibernating.
Still, 2024 is coming in hot, and we've got big themes surrounding innovation, evolution and transformation. The magic happens when we are open to new things, but we must leave the old ones on the side. What's back on trend will only stay here for a while, and like fashion, everything is constantly changing.
Love what's in front of you, not the fantasy version of the past your brain sells you. Letting go also allows these cycles to play out. What goes around does come back around, but as humans, our job is to detach. This means if you are grieving the loss of something you love, who knows, maybe it's not entirely gone and will come back around, just like 90s fashion.
